How to Clean and Store a Sex Doll: A Care Guide for NZ Owners
A sex doll is one of the bigger purchases in an adult toy collection, and how you look after it decides how long it lasts. Good sex doll care takes about ten minutes after each use: clean the openings, dry everything fully, and store the doll somewhere cool and out of the light. This guide walks through that routine for the two kinds of doll sold in New Zealand stores like ours, inflatable dolls and realistic soft bodied dolls, with the cleaners and lube that suit each one.

Why sex doll care matters
Dolls are made from soft materials that hold on to moisture and lube. Left damp, the inside of an opening can start to smell, the surface can turn sticky, and seams on an inflatable doll can weaken. None of this is hard to prevent. A doll that is rinsed, dried and stored properly keeps its feel for far longer than one that is put away straight after use, so a simple routine protects the money you spent.
Know your doll's material first
The right method depends on what the doll is made from, so check the product page or the box before you start.
| Doll type | Typical material | What it means for care |
|---|---|---|
| Inflatable doll | PVC body, sometimes with a soft sleeve insert | Wipe the body clean, rinse the openings, dry fully before you deflate it |
| Realistic soft doll or torso | Soft TPR, such as Pipedream's Fanta Flesh | Rinse and wash the openings, dry thoroughly, refresh the surface with a light dusting of powder |
If the listing does not name the material, treat the doll as the most delicate option: warm water, a mild toy cleaner, and no heat. We do not stock silicone or full size TPE dolls, so this guide leaves them out; if you own one, follow the maker's care instructions.
What you need: a simple care kit
You do not need specialist equipment. A toy cleaner, a water based lube, a soft lint free towel and somewhere clean to let the doll dry will cover it. These are the cleaners and lube we stock, with current prices.

How to clean an inflatable sex doll
Inflatable dolls such as the Cal Exotics Blonde Scarlet and the Vivid Raw Brown Sugar Love Doll are made from PVC, which is quick to clean as long as you do it while the doll is still inflated.
- Keep it inflated. A firm doll is much easier to rinse and dry than a flat one.
- Rinse the openings. Run warm water through each opening you used until the lube is gone. If the doll has a removable sleeve, take it out and wash it separately.
- Clean. Apply toy cleaner to the openings and the surrounding surface, following the directions on the bottle, then rinse again.
- Wipe the body. Go over the rest of the doll with a damp cloth, paying attention to the seams.
- Dry inside and out. Pat the body dry with a towel and leave the doll inflated somewhere airy until the openings are dry to the touch.
- Deflate gently. Open the valve and press the air out slowly. Do not fold the doll while it is still damp.
If your doll has powered features, such as the heating rod and earphones supplied with the Lexi Lush Inflatable Sex Doll, remove them before any water goes near the doll and keep them dry.
How to clean a realistic doll or torso
Soft bodied dolls such as the Pipedream Extreme Nasty Nympho and the Pipedream Torso 2 feel more lifelike because the material is soft and slightly porous. That same softness means they need a more careful dry.
- Rinse straight away. Flush each opening with warm water before lube has a chance to dry inside. Warm, not hot, as heat can damage soft materials.
- Wash. Work toy cleaner or a mild unscented soap through the openings with clean fingers, then rinse until the water runs clear.
- Clean the outside. Wipe the surface with a soft damp cloth. Avoid scrubbing brushes and anything abrasive.
- Dry thoroughly. Pat the outside with a lint free towel. For the openings, use a clean, dry cloth and then leave the doll to air dry with the openings facing down or to the side.
- Refresh the surface. Once the doll is fully dry, a light dusting of renewal powder or plain cornflour takes away any tackiness and brings back the soft, smooth feel.
A torso is heavier than it looks. The Torso 2 weighs about 5.4kg, so wash it in the shower or on a towel beside the basin instead of holding it over the sink.
Drying: the step most people rush
Most problems with dolls come from moisture that was left behind. Give the doll time. An hour or two in a room with moving air is usually enough for an inflatable, while a soft torso can take longer because the openings are deeper. Do not use a hairdryer, a heater or direct sun to speed things up, since heat can warp PVC and soften TPR. If you are short on time, a clean dry cloth pushed gently into the opening and removed will take out most of the water before you leave it to air.
How to store a sex doll
- Inflatable dolls: deflate fully once dry, fold loosely along the seams instead of across them, and keep the doll in its box or a cloth bag. Avoid sharp creases and anything that could puncture the PVC.
- Soft dolls and torsos: lay the doll flat on a soft surface in its original box or a storage tub. Do not stand it on a narrow edge or stack things on top of it, as soft materials can take on dents over time.
- Keep it cool, dry and dark. A wardrobe shelf or under the bed works well. Sunlight and heat age both PVC and TPR.
- Keep it on its own. Soft toy materials can react with each other, and dark fabrics or printed packaging can transfer colour onto light skin tones. A plain light coloured cloth between the doll and anything else is a simple fix.
Which lube is safe for a sex doll?
Water based lube is the reliable choice for both doll materials. It rinses out with warm water, which makes cleaning faster, and it does not break down PVC or TPR. Oil based products and some silicone lubes can make soft materials tacky over time, so check the doll's instructions before using anything else. Our guide to water and silicone lube explains the difference in more detail.

Common care mistakes
- Storing it damp. This is the main cause of smells and a sticky surface.
- Using harsh cleaners. Bleach, alcohol wipes and strong household sprays can dry out or discolour soft materials. Stay with toy cleaner or mild soap.
- Using hot water. Warm is enough. Very hot water can distort PVC and soft TPR.
- Overinflating. Inflate until the doll is firm but still gives a little when pressed, so the seams are not under strain.
- Skipping lube. Friction is hard on the material as well as uncomfortable for you.
When to repair and when to replace
A slow leak in an inflatable doll can often be fixed with a vinyl repair patch, the same kind used for air beds and pool toys. Small surface marks on a soft doll are usually cosmetic. It is time to replace a doll or its sleeve when an opening has torn, when the surface stays sticky after washing and powdering, or when a smell remains after a proper clean. If you are replacing an inflatable and want something closer to the real thing next time, the inflatable sex doll guide compares both styles side by side.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I clean a sex doll?
After every use. Rinse and wash the openings you used, dry the doll fully, and give the whole body a wipe down every few uses or whenever it has been in storage for a while.
Can I use soap and water to clean a sex doll?
Yes, a mild unscented soap and warm water will do the job. A dedicated toy cleaner is made for soft toy materials and is usually quicker to rinse away. Avoid bleach, alcohol and strong household cleaners.
How do I dry the inside of a sex doll?
Pat out as much water as you can with a clean, dry cloth, then leave the doll in a room with moving air until the opening feels dry. Keep inflatable dolls inflated while they dry, and do not use a hairdryer or heater.
How do I stop a doll feeling sticky?
Stickiness on a soft TPR doll usually means the surface needs refreshing. Wash and dry the doll, then apply a light dusting of renewal powder or cornflour. If it stays sticky after that, the material is wearing out.
Where should I store a sex doll so it stays discreet?
An inflatable doll deflates and folds small enough to fit in a drawer. A torso stores flat in its original box under a bed or on a wardrobe shelf. Either way, choose a cool, dry spot away from sunlight.
What lube should I use with a sex doll?
Water based lube. It suits PVC and TPR dolls and washes out with warm water, which keeps cleaning simple.
